Science Investigations (Sci-I) Program (2016- present)
In 2016, twenty educators from New Jersey, California, Ohio, Utah, Colorado, and Missouri from 12 different schools participated in the Sci-I programs. Each teacher has at least one other teacher in their school participating to increase successful implementation rates. The students reached during the 2017-18 academic year were from a wide range of racial and socioeconomic backgrounds. Up to 60 students from each school, including the top 5 investigation groups attended the annual Student Polar Research Symposium to present their research to their peers, teachers and students from other schools in the project, and polar scientists. These symposia were held at California State University, Monterey Bay (February 2018), Brigham Young University (BYU, Utah- associated with the McMurdo LTER), Ohio State University, Washington University in St Louis, MO, and Rutgers University (June 2018) to expose participating students to university campuses.
